ICT Embedded announces the MHP plug-in principle
12/03/2003
ICT Embedded, known for their Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) middleware for set-top boxes and integrated receiver devices has developed the MHP plug-in module for CE manufacturers that want to use their legacy code in conjunction with MHP.
The technical principle is simple: The MHP plug-in module silently resides in the set-top box and listens to MHP content within the selected service. Once found it will notice the user and start the application on request. All user-interaction goes via the same set-top’s user interface, ensuring a consistent look&feel. The interaction with the set-top box middleware is handled by a tiny, well-defined interface.
“We are proud to introduce the first MHP plug-in module into the market” said Bram Schot, CEO of ICT Embedded.
The MHP plug-in is a perfect solution for set-top box vendors that want to add MHP functionality to their set-top boxes. It is easily integrated with existing building blocks and other (3rd party-) components like PVR. Moreover, it allows creating a product range with uniform look&feel amongst the entire range. Finally, it facilitates set-top boxes with support for multiple interactive middleware standards, e.g., MHP and MHEG.
As is the case for ICT’s standard MHP implementation, the MHP plug-in module runs on all commonly used chipsets, operating systems, and pJava virtual machines.
