ESPIAL AND ICT EMBEDDED DELIVER CONVERGENT DVB-MHP PLUG-IN TO IPTV/MHP COMBO BOXES
09/10/2004
- Allows set top box manufacturers to add DVB-MHP functionality to existing and new IPTV STBs through novel plug-in capability
- Enables advanced Portal content development in traditional markup languages like HTML
August, 2004 Ottawa, Canada - Espial, the leading provider of set top box software and IPTV applications today announced that the Espial Escape browser has been chosen by ICT Embedded for their IPTV targeted DVB-MHP plug-in. Combined with the ICT plug-in, STB manufacturers can now offer an IPTV solution that can render Java DVB-MHP Xlets and HTML Portal applications as necessary within a specific geography.
The flexibility inherent in a box equipped with the ICT MHP-DVB plug-in means that DTT DVB-MHP content developers can develop applications using common web authoring tools, knowing that this content will be rendered reliably. Using traditional tools, such as HTML, allows content development to occur faster and cheaper than by using the more complex programming.
By using Espial Escape we’ve expanded the functionality of our DVB-MHP plug-in,” says Ralph van Duin, Business Development Manager Home Entertainment from ICT Embedded. “The Espial Escape browser brings real world capabilities and interoperability to the plug-in and expands our value in the IPTV set top box market.”
The MHP plug-in is easily integrated with existing building blocks and other third party components, facilitating support for multiple interactive middleware standards. It runs on all commonly used chipsets, operating systems, and pJava virtual machines.
“The ICT MHP plug-in echoes our own philosophy towards making development and customization software that is standards-compliant and easily integrated with all the components necessary for an IPTV design to be successful,” says Dr. Neale Foster, Director of Marketing for Television at Espial.
Within the MHP plug-in, Espial Escape enables TV-managed content services, ensuring that the content can be navigated on the TV using a remote control and is responsible for dynamically resizing content, setting minimum font sizing and mapping and maintaining consistent appearance on development systems and receivers. Espial Escape’s compliance to MHP protocols assures customers that the design is completely future-proofed.
